Michael Douglas had to break up with five women to meet Catherine Zeta-Jones – Film News | Film-News.co.uk

Michael Douglas broke up with five women he was casually dating when he got the chance to meet future wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.

The game star, 82, split from ex-wife Diandra Lucker when he started dating Kathryn in 1999 after dating actresses including Romancing the Stone’s Kathleen Turner and Basic Instinct’s Jeanne Tripplehorn.

After his first marriage ended, Michael admits he got a little angry and his wife-to-be gave him an ultimatum that he wouldn’t see anyone else – necessitating some painful phone calls.

Speaking to UK chat show host Graham Norton, Michael admitted: “It was very easy to get comfortable with the stars and sometimes it bothered me. When I asked Catherine, she said, ‘If we’re going to do this, you need to clean up your act’. I was divorced and seeing other people at the time, so I had to call five women to sort things out.”

The star’s colorful life is documented in her new memoir, One Helluva Ride, which Michael says contains plenty of juicy tales about her past.

He added: “There was so much talk about the films I was making, but then the producer in me took over and I thought, ‘Let’s go dirty!’

Asked about the process of writing a memoir, she continued: “I thought maybe it was time. My dad (Kirk Douglas) wrote nine books, including a great autobiography, so I started thinking about the legacy. It was fabulous to go back. I’d forgotten a lot.”

One Helluva Ride was released earlier this month.
