Are Konrad’s dogs dead in Mobland?

The war between the Harrigans and Frankie Cooper reaches a tipping point in Paramount+’s ‘MobLand’ after the latter attacks the family in their home. Backed by Cat McAllister, Frankie has access to all the information he needs to take down his rivals, including every address. He hits them where it hurts, and the Harrigans have no choice but to run for their lives. Amidst this chaos, a few beloved items remain, including Conrad’s dogs. When the enemy takes over their home, even Konrad is worried about what will happen to them. And unfortunately, all of his worst fears come true. Spoilers ahead.

Konrad’s dogs become the first great casualties of the war

Conrad Harrigan may not have much love for the people around him, but he sure does love his dogs. His relationship with his children remains shaky and there is plenty of room for backstabbing over the betrayals that have already occurred. But with dogs, there is no question of changing allegiances. Although her children may conspire behind her back, or express their hatred and contempt for her to her face, her dogs are never going to give up on her. Over the past season and a half, we’ve seen him pet the dogs and make sure they’re well taken care of. It could be said that he is more emotionally invested in dogs than in his own children.

That’s why their abandonment continues to haunt him, even as the entire family flees for their safety. His fear is not unfounded, as Frankie not only does not seem to have a special love for animals, but has proven to be a particularly ruthless person. If he wasn’t already motivated enough to attack the Harrigans, he becomes even more determined to destroy them after Conrad’s impromptu attack leaves a dozen of his men dead. Since then, he has been obsessed with revenge, hitting Konrad even harder. So when the time comes, he doesn’t miss an opportunity to hit the Harrigans in their own home.

Unfortunately, the family quickly escapes by helicopter without any casualties. Frank would have preferred one or more of them to die, but for now, watching them survive is the only consolation. However, when he enters the house and finds Konrad’s dogs sitting quietly on the couch, he finally has something Konrad loves. He approaches the dogs in a friendly way and feeds them biscuits dipped in milk. However, he has no intention of tending and nurturing them as Conrad did. Instead, he shoots them without a word, a heartbreaking sacrifice for Conrad, if not all of Harrigan.

Frankie knows that Conrad will lose his mind over losing the dogs, and of course the Harrigan patriarch wants to kill Frankie with his own hands. In an earlier episode, when Maeve suggested they put the dogs down, Paul panicked because he knows how much the dogs mean to his boss and that Conrad would surely kill him for letting the pets die, even if it was his wife. Fortunately, Maeve’s true purpose turns out to be something else, and Paul breathes easier. In retrospect, this scene seems to foreshadow the tragic fate of the dogs. Paul’s fears are confirmed as Konrad’s grief overwhelms him even more, and that’s not good news for anyone, especially Frank.
