‘Black Panther’ director Ryan Coogler and MCU boss Kevin Feige reflect on Chadwick Boseman’s death five years ago

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler and Marvel boss Kevin Feige are reflecting on the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman in 2020.

It is certain that almost everyone who reads this article knows the story of Chadwick Boseman. But it’s still strange how much the world has changed since his death. Kevin Feige is currently in the process of wrapping up the multiverse saga of the MCU, and Ryan Coogler has already done another one black panther The movie, on the third road. Coogler is also a recent Oscar winner for his role as screenwriter and director sinners.

Ahead of Ryan Coogler’s big win, Kevin Feige sat down with the director to talk about their journey into the MCU and beyond at the University of Southern California (via The Hollywood Reporter ). As the conversation eventually turned to the death of Chadwick Boseman, Feige felt that he had taken the future for granted when it came to many of his co-stars.

“We’ll be back there, that’s always been my expectation. So the need to have dinner or lunch to say hello, I just never do. Because we’re busy and there’ll be a next time. And it hit me like a ton of bricks when I realized there wouldn’t be a next time.”

Ryan Coogler reflects on Chadwick Boseman’s death

Ryan Coogler has repeatedly spoken about how Chadwick Boseman’s death affected him. What was new about the chat, however, was that it revealed how Kevin Feige and Disney CEO Bob Iger were handling the situation behind the scenes. In particular, they weren’t worried about the MCU or the next Black Panther, but about how the director was holding up.

“They came to our apartment locked in … and we walked around Richmond Arena and just talked. And that was the first real check-in. And it wasn’t, ‘Hey, what are we going to do with this franchise?’

“There was only one Chad, bro. And there was only one character meant for him.”

It’s likely that Ryan Coogler will return to the MCU sometime this year or next Black Panther 3. With Kevin Feige rumored to be looking to remake the titular character after the Multiverse Saga ends, it will be interesting to see how the director handles the character at the end of his own saga, and how Chadwick Boseman’s legacy will continue to influence the franchise.
