Pig killer
By Chad Ferrin

Pig killer It promises to be a scary movie inspired by real-life serial killer Willie Pickton, but instead veers into something unnecessarily long and fails to entertain.
Jake Boos kills it as the lead, and the practical effects and gore in the film are fantastic, so I don’t understand why, with the budget they clearly had, the film ends up with pieces of a puzzle that don’t fit together.
If the dirty, boring plot was just focused on Willy and his dirty behavior, it might have been successful, but the introduction of too many characters that were unnecessary and stupid really contributed to why it didn’t work well for me. There was a junky sub-scene, and really the question I need answered is why were there so many scenes where people were driving? If you want to make a movie about Willie, do it. If you want to make a movie about the life of one of his victims and how it ends for him, do it. Don’t put the two together in a sandwich that tastes terrible.
I get the appeal of wanting to make a cheesy exploitation film, but this one misses the mark in more ways than one and is hypersexualized too much. There really is a way to show how childhood traumas guide the actions of psychotic adults, and this was not the case. Not to mention an eye-roll-inducing, poorly-timed sex joke that wasn’t even funny.
I’d also be doing someone a huge disservice by not reading the soundtrack at all. Is it 80s nostalgia? Bar room karaoke? I can’t tell you one thing.
As you can see, I put as much effort into this review as into the script. The actors deserved better and Willie Pickton’s exploitation part should have been handled with greater precision.
I received a copy of this film in exchange for an honest review.
