I’m loving the new Chris Seaver movie ready to watch during my October Horrors. I’ve been a fan of his for a long time and try to sneak in a few of his movies during my annual binge, but it’s not often that I get to watch a new movie during my Halloween season.
A few months ago, he announced that he was selling copies of his latest film, Death O’ Lantern 4: Summer Slaughter, on Blues. I reached out to him and he was kind enough to send me a link to review. I knew Halloween was fast approaching and I decided to keep it up until now. I would like to thank Chris for sending this in for review.
**Spoiler Alert** The movie follows a descendant of Stingy Jack who accidentally eats pumpkin spice. He’s highly allergic and will fall profusely in the yard before coming home to rest. This pumpkin patch revives the miser and he goes on the killing spree once more. **spoiler alert**
I went into this one knowing what to expect from a Seaver film and it delivered exactly that. Fans of Seaver know that his films feature their own dialogue while delivering crude humor and horror clichés. I absolutely love his movies and while DOL 4 was really fun, it doesn’t stand out from his other movies.
The acting in this film is exactly what I’ve come to expect from Seaver and his usual suspects. The actor uses humor to cover his inexperience and it works. It’s so much fun to watch, especially with all the chemistry and fun they have with each other on screen. The funny dialogue and energy is what makes these movies so memorable in my opinion. The story of this movie is almost the same as the previous movies. However, I laughed for a very long time at the resurrection of Stingy Jack. I love Seaver’s sense of humor that masks the fact that we’re still having the same story.
Finally, the movie features the killer wearing a cheap rubber mask and some fake blood. The kills aren’t all that memorable, but they fit the film and offer a few more cheap laughs. Overall, Death O’ Lantern 4: Summer Slaughter doesn’t really do anything for the series it’s known for, but it does scratch that itch for a new Seavage movie. I enjoyed it and highly recommend it to other Seaver fans. Check it out.
